After the intial design is in place and all the measurements have been carefully put together, you will need a flat and level surface to place your ice rink. Start by packing some snow approximately one inch high around the area, to act as a base and barrier between the ice and the yard. It is recommended to provide a 3 inch lip to contain the water and be able to hold an adult. First its a good idea to make sure the ice rink tarp is free and clear of any leaves or other type of debris, as this may cause a soft spot on the ice. Fill with just a few sprinlkes to of water at first, then you can start filling 1 to 2 inches of water at a time, allowing each layer to freeze before adding another. This process is the longest as it takes some time for the water to freeze, you could use synthetic ice to speed up the process if desired.
